I Am Daddyman...

Daddyman is a name given to me by my children and one by which I am proud to be called. It came about because my children had a desire to know their grandfather who passed away before they were born and even before I married. So, I have, at times, told them stories of their grandfather so they could get a sense of who he was and learn to love him even though he is not with us physically.

It turns out that when I was young I had one brother who was a little irreverent and not a little rebellious. In stating this, I don't want to lead any to believe that he wasn't good, because he was. But, even so, he tended toward irreverence. One day he called our father Daddyman. We all looked to dad's expression to see if he would like the name or not and it turned out that he did. We called him by this name affectionately until he died.

When I told my children the story of how their grandpa got his name they thought it would be the perfect name for me as well so I now carry that name in my family.

Because it's a name my father loved, I love it too, and carry it proudly. And as irreverent as it sounds, because it's spoken lovingly in my home, when I hear that name, I feel nothing but love and it helps me remember my father and the good man he was and is as I believe his spirit lives on.
